Pregnancy and exercise

Contrary to popular belief, it is quite safe to continue, or even begin an exercise routine during pregnancy (subject to doctor's approval), under the supervision of a personal trainer qualified in pre/post-natal fitness.

Even if a woman is not active, there are advantages to taking up exercise during pregnancy. Exercise promotes a feeling of well-being, improves muscle tone and posture, preparing the mother-to-be for the physical stress of labour. It also makes getting back into shape after the baby is born much easier.

Providing no complications arise, a woman may continue an adapted exercise programme throughout the full term of pregnancy.

Many female athletes have not only returned to their sport within a few weeks of giving birth, but have gone on to win major competitions in just a few months. Without doubt, conditioned mothers are more likely to regain their figure after pregnancy than those who don't exercise at all
