Tai Chi and Falls Prevention

The practice if Tai Chi (Taiji) has recently become recognized as measurably beneficial in the prevention of falls-related fractures amongst the elderly, resulting in reduction of the substantial cost to the NHS in terms of both treatment and care.

Regular practice of Tai Chi develops balance, co-ordination, and spacial awareness, which all contribute to reduction in the chances of falls, and consequenty improvement in quality of life. Even for the most frail elderly, seated sessions can provide stimulating activity which increases co-ordination and awareness.
